Josh will be on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon tonight!

Hey, if you're still awake at 12:35 ET, you're probably going to want to surf over to NBC and check out Late Night with Jimmy Fallon tonight. Our very own EIC, Joshua Topolsky will be on the show with some gear in tow. The other guests are Bryan Cranston (we love Breaking Bad) and Jesse Eisenberg (the star of The Social Network).

You can also check out Jimmy's appearance on The Engadget Show right here!

Mulve, the free and non-P2P music download app, shut down by RIAA

TorrentFreak is reporting that Mulve, just one week after we first wrote about it, has been shut down by the RIAA. It seems that, while the RIAA was unable to touch the majority of the service, Mulve had a portion of its site hosted with USA-based Hostgator. All it took was one DMCA cease-and-desist letter, and Mulve is now offline.

As to why Mulve (which is a concatenation of 'Music Love,' according to its developers) had its website hosted in the USA, who knows. Perhaps they hadn't figured on receiving quite so much attention last week -- or maybe they're just new to the RIAA rigmarole. Mulve told TorrentFreak that the downtime is only temporary, but no ETA was given for its return.

There's a silver lining, though: pirateapp, an open source variant of Mulve that downloads music from the same place at the same high speeds, still works.

Six Android browsers enter the ring, only one reigns supreme
Choice is a good thing, and Android users certainly have a lot of choices. Default launcher or Launcher Pro? Fancy animated live wallpaper or static picture of adorable puppies? Stock browser or alternative? It's that last question that has plagued so many, and to offer some guidance PC World pitted six of the Market's top choices against each other. The 2.1 and 2.2 stock browsers entered, along with Skyfire 2.0, Opera Mini, Dolphin HD, and Mozilla Fennec (the pre-beta release of what could bring Firefox to your phone). The winner? Well, you can see the ultimate speed results above, with SkyFire surprisingly trumping Opera Mini, though that one seemingly has 'em beat when it comes to repeat-visits. However, the full story when it comes to things like page rendering and Flash compatibility is naturally a good bit more complex. For those details you'll need to click on through.

[Thanks, Tim]

BMW shows off first 'official' iPad integration, convinces us to go aftermarket

Look, BMW -- we appreciate that you were the first automaker to provide seamless iPod integration way back when, but seriously, did anyone on the design squad look at this abomination before shipping it off to France? As the story goes, the aforesaid automaker has demonstrated the first "official" iPad-vehicle integration setup at this year's Paris Auto Show, and to be frank, it's heinous. The idea here is to provide world-class rear-seat entertainment, while apparently destroying aesthetics in one fell swoop. It's just about too hideous to be true, but the iconic "BMW" logo on the mounting brackets all but confirms the authenticity. Perhaps you folks should consult with any number of the skilled DIYers out there before shooting for the stars with version 2.0?

AOL acquires 5min Media, a video syndication company

5minmedia

While the TechCrunch deal is the most exciting news I've heard from AOL today, it's not the only major deal to go down: This morning AOL announced its purchase of 5min Media, a massive video syndication company.

When you go to the 5min homepage, it looks a bit like a mini-YouTube; that's not the exciting part. What's noteworthy about 5min is that they manually curate all of their content (over 200,000 categorized, tagged and rated videos), and provide technology for automatically embedding relevant videos alongside textual content. So if you've got a blog post about dogs, 5min can automatically place a pet-related video next to your content - possibly something about the exact breed of dog you mentioned.

5min specialized in educational content, and their player shows it: When you switch to full-screen, you get a Tools menu which allows you to advance the video frame-by-frame, change the brightness and even go slo-mo so you can see exactly what's happening. You can play with these features using this random video showing How to Remove the LCD from the 13" Macbook.

Clear WiMAX router passes the FCC without a scratch

The world is not suffering from a dearth of WiMAX routers, but Clear has just a bit of room in their stable: while they offer 4G modems that plug into your computer over USB or Ethernet, along with battery-powered WiFi hotspots, they don't offer any home routers that do the WiFi thing, router thing, and WiMAX thing all-in-one. If this sounds like soft spot in their lineup to you, you'll be happy to know that an honest to goodness plug-it-into-a-wall 802.11n router with WiMAX, Clear branding, and possibly even a VoIP plug has just passed through the FCC. Will it change everything? Maybe.
